The Afterthought

It’s really interesting

rather funny, actually

how we found ourselves in the opposite position we imagined.

In the beginning,

you were the one chasing after me with your alternative songs and sincere words

I was the one giving you, giving us another chance.

We both knew I had been the one who had lost feelings in previous relationships.

I was terrified that would happen here, too (though as the relationship occurred, I knew it would not)

Now?

Now I became the one loving you and writing poetry and playlists when you don’t feel the same in return.

You turned into the one with lost feelings.

The difference here, though,

besides our swapped positions,

is that I gave us another chance.

You didn’t.
